In the early 20th century, as the new and dangerous technology of aircraft were being developed, pilots began to believe in what they called "Gremlins" - mythical creatures that were sabotaging their craft and causing mechanical failures. These Gremlins gave them somewhere to place the blame for technology problems. Now, as we enter the age of AI, we're seeing Gremlins appearing in the responses of tools like ChatGPT. Just like during the early years of flight, we've entered an age of technology where some elements are beyond our understanding and therefore our ability to predict. These models are so complex (GPT 4 is rumored to have 1.76 trillion parameters) that it is impossible to rule out that there are actual creatures resembling Gremlins "existing" within the computational complexity.
