For as long as there has been technology there have been artists who have creativly "misused" it for purposes not intended by the original designers.  By doing this, the "users" turn the tables and become the de facto "designers" of the product's purpose and functionality.  Great examples from recent history are the turntable and the TR-808.  Both of these were repurposed in creative ways by the hip hop community in the 1980s, and this creative reimagining then led to new technologies based on the reinterpretation of the device (for example, the innovation of scratching vinyl led to Serato's simulated digital vinyl scratching functionality).  The repurposing of turntables, drum machines and samplers also led to major cultural reverberations, including the subsequent development of hip hop video games like PaRappa the Rappa.  This classic 1997 release is considered to be the first true rhythm game, setting the stage for mega hits like Guitar Hero and Rock Band in the 2000s.

This piece features the rare yellow Vogue 12" Rapper's Delight release from 1979.
