Bedroom Wizards

The Commodore 64 remains the best selling desktop computer of all time.  When it appeared in 1982, it gave a generation of young people almost magical powers to conjure worlds in silicon, code and memory.  In an example of early creative empowerment technology, hidden within the classic C64 game 'Wizard' was an advanced level editor that let players construct their own worlds and explore the rules that governed them.  In true wizard fashion, these worlds were sealed through arcane commands into iron oxide powder (floppy disks) and passed hand to hand among a community of apprentices.
